„Change” produced by Mr. Walt for Da Beatminerz.
„When It Rains It Pours (Survival Warz!)” produced by Rich Black
for Da Beatminerz.

Chocolate Ty’s (from Da Beatminerz) New York Hip-Hop group
Shadez of Brooklyn. This is their first single.
The A-Side track, „Change” appeared on the soundtrack to the
film „Hurricane Streets” and DJ Premier’s mix „New York Reality
Check 101”.

„This should be the next DIY to break through, courtesy of Da
Beatminerz-owned Tape Kingz label. The A-side has a great piano
track supporting intelligent reality verses. The flow isn’t
perfect in the later verses, but overall it’s a very enjoyable
listen all the way through. Mr. Walt is on production and shows
he’ll be able to hack it for years to come.

Don’t bank on the group itself though – the two sides of the
record are like night and day. „When It Rains It Pours (Survival
Warz!)” hasn’t pleased me no matter how many times I listen to
it. While it’s a different producer on side B, there shouldn’t
be so much of a contrast between Mr. Walt and Rich Blak
considering they’re the same crew. I mean, how can I say
Beatminerz production when either of these cuts can be
representative of their style? Simply put, one guy will always
get the call and the other can step.”

„An excellent single. I can’t really say I like the B-side that
much, but the A-side is really strong…production by DJ Evil
Dee is jazzy and tight. Great piano-flavored track and good
lyrics from some East NY kids who can talk about the street life
without glorifying it. Think of ‚it like Group Home w/ better
skills. The label is Da Beatminerz indie label by the way and
worth supporting for the future.”

„‚Change’ was blown to the forefront of the mid-90’s indy
releases mainly due to its appearance on the ‚New York Reality
Check’ compilation by Primo, but also because Mr. Walt from Da
Beatminerz did some sterling production work here. The lyricism
is cool enough, nothing too complex but nothing too distracting
either so good marks there regardless – but Walt’s beat takes
things to a higher level.

Most people didn’t rate the b-side (‚When It Rains It Pours’)
too much, but I thought it was kinda cool – mellow and chilled,
it’s not as strong as the companion track but still well worth a
spin. Even though this dropped in ’97, it’s becoming a
collectable piece a la ‚Too Complex’ and ‚Braggin’ Writes’.”
